Nkoranza (B/A), March 7, GNA - The Nkoranza District Assembly on Saturday honoured three communities for promoting environmental cleanliness last year.

Bonte, Akropong and Sikaa communities were honoured as part of activities marking Ghana's 47th Independence anniversary at Nkoranza. Bonte was adjudged the best community and was given 1.5 million cedis, a wheelbarrow, three spades and two pick-axes.

Akropong came second and received one million cedis, a wheelbarrow, two spades and two rakes while Sikaa had 500,000 cedis cash, a wheelbarrow, two rakes and two spades as the second runner up. Each of the three communities also received a certificate of merit. Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, the District Chief Executive (DCE), read the President's address after a parade formed by school children, security services, Ghana Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians and Ghana Association of Garages.

The DCE advised the people not to be divided by party politics as that could adversely affect development efforts in the district. He stressed that political opponents were not enemies and urged them to work hard enough to enhance productivity.

Mr Ampofo-Twumasi asked the communities to live in clean and decent surroundings to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases. About 840 school children and students from 16 primary schools and 12 Junior Secondary Schools in the Nkoranza district participated in the parade.

Star International School was adjudged the best in the primary school division while St. Theresa's primary school placed second with St. Barnabas placing third.

At the JSS level, El Ralpha Shalom International took the first position, followed by St. Theresa's JSS and Nkoranza L/A 'A' in third position.

They were each presented with a wall clock and a certificate.
