Nkoranza B/A, July 24, GNA - Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom IV, President of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, has appealed to traditional rulers to set up education endowment funds to support brilliant but needy students in their communities.
Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, was addressing his divisional chiefs and elders at the inauguration of a management committee set up to oversee the affairs of "Okatakyie AgyemangKudom IV Education Endowment Fund" at Nkoranza. He established the fund in 2005 to help promote the growth of education in the area.
Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on his contribution to the growth of the fund. He said beneficiaries of the fund were students from the Nkoranza, Kintampo North and Kintampo South districts and appealed to his traditional rulers to liase with other opinion leaders in organizing fund raising rallies yearly in support of the fund. Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom appealed to citizens of the area both in Ghana and abroad to consider the plight of the younger generation and support the fund.
Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu Nkoranza, District Director of Education and chairman of the management committee, said the criteria for selecting beneficiary students would be drawn by the end of July. He said students drawn from basic, senior secondary and tertiary institutions would be considered for support and students who offered science and technology at the tertiary level would be given special attention.
