In a bid to boost education in Axim, the Nkosuohene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa has presented 950 mathematical sets to final year Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) students in Axim.
The gesture was also to support efforts being made by the Omanhene of Lower Axim in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, Awulae Attibrukusu III, to promote teaching and learning among students in the Municipality.
Awulae Attiburkusu has among other things, been assisting school authorities to organise regular mock examinations for final year BECE students to prepare them adequately for their final exams to enable them excel.
The recently installed Development Chief, Nana Nkwantabisa, who is a Journalist and Communication Analyst, said the distribution of the mathematical sets was part of his continuous commitment towards promoting education as well as motivating the finalists in the Municipality.
He said last year, he distributed 320 Mathematical sets to students within the Apewosika Electoral Area and some schools in Axim.
Nana Osei Nkwantabisa who presented the items to the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service reiterated his desire towards the promotion of quality education among the youth, while others are given vocational training and mentoring programmes aimed at empowering and building their confidence for life.
He said that would help encourage the young ones to stay in school instead of focusing their attention on fishing, farming and other activities that hamper their future aspirations.
“It is important to motivate our young ones at their early stage with the right incentives that will help boost their morale to aim for the best especially at this crucial moments as they prepare to write their final exams, Nana Nkwantabisa said.
He noted that with education being part of the developmental process of the youth, it is important for stakeholders responsible for the sector to help ensure that teachers acquire the needed professional training to enable them teach students to pass their exams well.
Nana Nkwantabisa advised the students to take their studies seriously and abide by the rules and regulations before and during the examinations, which is scheduled to start on June 13.
He urged parents to continue to invest into their children’s education to enable them become responsible and useful citizens of the society.
On her part, Mrs Gloria Gontor, a representative of the Municipal Directorate thanked Nana Nkwantabisa for the gesture and appealed for more of such support.
Nana Nkwantabisa later toured all the 13 junior high schools in the Axim Circuit with five examination centres in the Municipality, including Nsein Senior High School Centre, Northern part of the Municipality as well as part of Central Gwira to distribute the items to the students.
