No deer catch at Aboakyer

Sun, 5 May 2013 Source: GNA

A large number of people who attended this year’s Aboakyer festival in Winneba were disappointed as none of the two Asafo companies was able to bring a live deer to the durbar grounds.

At about 11: am, the Tuafo, the first Asafo company came to announce their failure to make a catch, followed by the Dentsifo- the second group also came up with the same story.

When the news got to the people they started leaving the grounds unceremoniously because the Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, who was first attending the festival, had delivered his speech.

It would be recalled that in 2010, a similar thing occurred.

Mr Sarpong expressed concern that the festival that had gained international recognitions is characterised by conflicts and huge resources are spent on security personnel. This, he said, could not package Aboakyer as a tourism product.

He implored Effutus to find lasting solution to the protracted traditional and chieftaincy disputes that has the potential of creating differences among the people. “This is the most opportune time to channel the energies of the youth into useful ventures,” he said.

The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, said the implementation of prudent policies by the government has won Ghana the reputation as the fastest growing economy in Africa.

He said it was in this regard that the country has received approval to enjoy the second compact of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).
