Management of Noor Islam Institute for Development (NIID) has donated assorted food items to about 600 poor and needy families in the Upper West Region to aid beneficiaries go through the Ramadan successfully.

The package, which included bags of rice, sugar, tins of tomato and cooking oil valued at GH¢300,000.00, was financed by NIID Partner, Kuwait based international donor Direct Aid Organisation, Ghana office.

Mr Alhassan Iddrisu, the Upper West Regional Director of NIID said the intervention was necessitated because during Ramadan periods, most families ‘suffer’ due to rising household consumption of food items.

He called on philanthropists, other benevolent organisations and individuals in Ghana to emulate the generous gesture coming from a foreign country to relieve the poor in the country.

“This support is coming from a hardworking Muslim from Kuwait and we in Ghana should work hard to support the needy in the country and beyond”, he said.

He charged Muslim brethren to grow their faith in Allah during this fasting period and also work harder to bolster national development in order to support the needy and vulnerable in society.

The Director in charge of the Northern Sector of Direct Aid Organisation, Mr Mohammed Iddrisu Ishmael, distributed the food items and advised the beneficiaries to have faith in Allah and pray often for forgiveness of sins as well as lasting peace and love for one another.

Majority of the beneficiaries who were women including persons with disabilities received the packages with joy as they beamed with endless smiles accompanied with thunderous clapping to appreciate the donor.

Mr Issifu Mumuni, a beneficiary of the gift, recounted how hard it was for him and his family to cope with feeding before and after breaking their fast owing to the fact that he himself had a physical disability.

Pointing to the package, he said: “These food items given to us will help us a lot to finish the Ramadan successfully”.
