District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Edmund Kudjoh Atta
The District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Edmund Kudjoh Atta, has disclosed that the District Assembly is implementing various policies aimed at improving the standard of education in the district.
He explained, a by-law is being drafted to support bond candidates to be of good behaviour and also ban activities identified to be contributing factors in candidates failing their Basic Education Certificate Examination and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
“I have come to understand that final year students right after registering, begin to disrespect their teachers, decide not to go to school, refuse to write mock among others. These are the issues we want to use the bye-law to address”, he said in an interview with GhanaWeb.
He added that “we are putting final touches to the by-law so we can forward it to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to gazette, then we start implementing it.”
He is optimistic the by-law which would also ban pupils from loitering in town late hours, would play a pivotal role in rescuing the fallen standard of education in the North Dayi District.
Mr Kudjoh Atta emphasized the assembly will also play its part by ensuring all requisite educational logistics, ranging from infrastructure, furniture to teaching and learning materials are provided.
This, he believes would augment quality education delivery and contribute increase performance of candidates in the final exams.
He indicated that some infrastructures are under construction at three second cycle schools in the district to ease congestion at the institutions.
“We are constructing a boys dormitory at the Vakpo Senior High Technical School, the project is at the roofing level, this is to make enough room for the 2018/2019 intake. There is another boys’ dormitory under construction at Vakpo Senior High, we have resumed works on an assembly hall project which was abandoned in Anfoega Senior High. It is almost completed”
“So we are doing all this to ensure the schools have enough infrastructure to accommodate the increasing numbers of students and benefit adequately from the Free SHS”, he added.
