Abono (Ash), July 16, GNA - Spiritualists have been advised not to regard all mental case as spiritual since there are other causes of mental illness.
Dr K.K. Hussein, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Director of Health Service, who gave the advice, noted that depression and drugs could also lead to mental problems, which could be treated at hospitals. He was speaking during visits to prayer camps and spiritual healing centres by District Directors of Health Services in Ashanti at their recent maiden two-days retreat at Abono.
The visit was to afford them the opportunity to see and learn at first hand the conditions at the camps and centres and the mode of treatment of the patients, interact with the leaders and inmates and offer suggestions and advise.
Dr Hussein asked the owners of the camps and centres to keep their environment and worship places clean and healthy to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.
Interacting with the owners of the camps and centres at the Miracle Jesus Evangelistic Ministry and Nana Obua Nipa Herbal Healing Centre, Dr Hussein asked them to liaise with the health institutions by referring cases beyond them to hospitals for medical attention. The District Directors also toured parts of the inaccessible areas of the district in terms of health care delivery as well as areas with peculiar problems.
The retreat also afforded them the opportunity to draw up plans and strategies for the proper delivery of health service in the region and the country as a whole and how to manage the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Addressing the Directors, Dr Mrs Agatha Bonney, National Chairperson of the District Directors of Health Services Group called on them to intensify efforts at guinea worm surveillance and Acute Flaccid Paralysis to help eradicate them.
She gave the assurance that everything was being done to sensitise all health personnel to embrace and manage the National Health Insurance Scheme effectively when it takes off.
