A combined security team on Thursday carried out an early morning ejection operation on the premises of Madam Hagar Nkrumah, a notorious landlady in Takoradi.

The woman, who claimed ownership of a government bungalow belonging to the defunct State Construction Corporation (SCC) was on Wednesday, May 9 last year arrested on the orders of the Western Regional Security Council on account of her unlawful occupation of state property.

On May 16, 2012, a Takoradi Circuit Court “B” granted a GHc50,000 bail to Madam Hagar Nkrumah and also asked her to vacate the SCC bungalow by August 30, an order she failed to comply with.

Madam Nkrumah was alleged to have built on government lands around the Windy Ridge Residential area, in addition to selling portions of lands belonging to the state.

Mr. George Frimpong, Western Regional Lands Officer, was quoted as saying that several notices to get the woman to relinquish the state properties had proved futile. Many people have fallen victim to her “dubious” activities, either through land acquisition or renting of her premises.

The GNA’s investigation at the Rent Control Department also revealed that she had many unattended outstanding cases to her name.

Mr. Emmanuel Afedze, a tenant in one of her houses in the Windy Ridge area confirmed the story of her notoriety.

He said, “After the woman took much money from me, she refused to put the house in proper shape, I had to again spend extra monies on the house after which she sent me an ejection notice”.

Mr. Afedze said the case had been reported to the Rent Control office.

Mrs. Margaret Quashie, also a tenant and a victim of Madam Nkrumah’s activities corroborated the story and narrated how the so-called landlady took sums of monies from her without providing them a decent facility.
