Nsawkaw chief dies at 71

Nsawkaw (B/A), June 1, GNA - The death has been announced of Odeneho Twum Barimah Ameyaw II, Omanhene of the Nsawkaw Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo on October 14, last year at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, after a short illness. He was 71.

Mr. Charles Obour, a grandson of the late chief, told Ghana News Agency in a telephone conversation that Odeneho Twum Barimah would be buried at Nsawkaw on June 13 this year.

Giving a profile of the late chief, Mr. Obour said the deceased attended elementary school at the Wenchi Methodist School, completing in 1949 and then became an assistant storekeeper at the Wenchi branch of the UAC stores from 1950 to 1956.

He later worked as a ledger clerk with a timber company at Nasserkrom, near Kumasi, from 1957 to 1960 and joined the State Farms Corporation in 1962.

The grandson said the late Omanhene attended a farm institute and thereafter a course at Nyankpala in farm management in 1972 and on completion was promoted as a farm manager at Branam state farms in Branam, near Wenchi.

Odeneho Twum Barimah retired as a senior farm manager at Branam farms in 1984 after he was enstooled as Omanhene of Nsawkaw traditional area on July 3, 1982.

His wife, Mrs. Mary Twum Barimah and 12 children survive him. 01 June 04
