A cross-section of people in the Volta Regional capital, Ho, on Tuesday expressed satisfaction at President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso for the post of Regional Minister.

She is seen as a worthy replacement of the late Henry Ford Kamel, with capabilities to transform the fortunes of the Region.

Mama Attrato II, Queen-mother of Ho-Dome commended President Mahama for nominating a woman to represent him in the Region and said, “I’m very happy especially because she is a woman”.

She said women were creative and urged Madam Ntoso to use her creative skills to cause the establishment of small-scale industries in the Region to create employment.

“The Region has remained at a standstill for long. We want to see action,” Mama Attrato said.

Madam Lena Alai, Volta Regional Director of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection told the GNA that the nomination of Madam Ntoso was a “good omen” for the Region.

She was optimistic that Madam Ntoso’s lobbying skills would be critical in attracting international support for the development of the Region.

Madam Alai said Madam Ntoso could also serve as a good role model for girls in the Region given the rising incidence of teenage pregnancies and school drop outs.

She therefore appealed to all to support Madam Ntoso to succeed.

Mr Edwin Gamadeku, Volta Regional Director of the Department of Children, said though expectations were high, he was hopeful Madam Ntoso could face the challenge of developing the Region.

Some workers at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) also welcomed Madam Ntoso’s nomination and said they were ready to work with her.

“We have all along been working with male ministers so we are happy to work with a woman now”, a Receptionist at the VRCC said. A driver at the VRCC said, “It is good, she is welcome".

Some journalists said Madam Ntoso’s nomination seemed to reflect the determination of the President not to be swayed by lobbyists.

Until Madam Ntoso’s nomination, a Volta Youth Network had put up Mr Emmanuel Bedzra, Member of Parliament for Ho-West to be considered for appointment.
