Nungua Residents Dump Refuse At Cemetaries

Though the AMA seems to be sensitising the general public on cleanliness, residents in certain parts of Accra have refused to adhere to the sensitisation, citing the reason of unavailability of refuse containers.

The situation has resulted in refuse being dumped indiscriminately, thereby serving as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, flies, insects and bacteria.

The delays in lifting filled garbage containers by those responsible was also part of the problem as most of the residents had to engage in indiscriminate dumping of refuse at any place they deem fit.

An example was noticed at Nungua where cemeteries and portions of school compounds have now been turned into refuse dumping sites and places of convenience.

This came to light when a team of journalists accompanied AMA officials to the area to report on the clean up campaign that comes off every week.

Most of the Nungua residents attributed this to lack of adequate supply of refuse containers in the area.
