Tema, March 1, GNA- An educationist on Sunday called on Proprietors of Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDCs) to provide quality training to the children in their care. Mr Victor Tetteh, an Assistant Director of the Tema Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said pre-school children need early quality education because their development depended on the kind of educational training they would receive from childhood. He therefore asked the proprietors not to concentrate on making profit only but be serious with teaching the children. He was speaking at a day's seminar on the theme "Lend a hand" organised by the Meridian branch of the Rotary Club of Tema for Day Care Proprietors and attendants in Tema. Mr Tetteh reminded them that ECDCs were no longer day care centres but institution of learning that promote the child's development. This calls for employing trained teachers instead of unqualified ones.
He asked the attendants to observe the children closely and report any uncompromising behaviour to their parents so that they could quickly remedy the situation before getting out of hand.
Mrs Margaret Koada, Tema Municipal Social Welfare Officer advised against indiscrimination of admitting children into their centres saying, that alone dampened the spirit of some parents.
Mrs Judith Amoo Mensah, a public health nurse educated the participants on personal and environmental cleanliness and asked the proprietors to ensure that food sellers on their compound observe general cleanliness.
