Nurses learn about NHIS

Wa, Jan. 13, GNA- The Ghana Registered Nurses Association of Ghana (GRNA) has embarked on a nation-wide educational campaign on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to equip members with adequate skills to handle health matters in communities.

To this end, they have organised a three-day sensitisation workshop for over 60 nurses drawn from the regional and district hospitals and health district and all the sub-districts of Upper WEst at Wa.

Outlining the objectives of the workshop, Mr George Anarwat, sector co-ordinator of Partners for Health Reform Plus (PHRPlus), said the workshops, which would be organised in all the ten regions would create awareness on the roles of nurses in the preparation and implementation of the scheme.

The workshop would also provide technical assistance for the smooth take off of community health insurance and district health insurance schemes.

Mr Anarwat said the workshops would provide the opportunity to identify problems in the implementation of the scheme.

Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister, in a speech read for him commended the GRNA for organising such workshops for members since their role was vital in the implementation of the scheme.

He urged nurses to listen to criticism about the programme so that at the end of the day they would be able to identify some of the challenges at their levels.

"We are happy of the workshop because nurses as major health providers need to be abreast with the issues yourselves before you can explain to others", he said.
