Nyanyano chief reacts to Omanhen of Akyempim press conference

Gomoa Nyanyano (C/R), March 5, GNA – The Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Dr Wiabo has refuted the allegation that he is making a move to make Nyanyano to become part of the newly created Odupong Kpehe (Kasoa) Municipal Assembly in order to create a paramountcy for himself.

Reacting to a press conference held by the Omanhen and chiefs of Gomoa Akyempim last week to appeal to the government not to cede Nyanyano or any Gomoa community to the new Municipal Assembly, Nana Dr Wiabo flanked by his elders said they were invited by Electoral Officers from Cape Coast and Accra to a meeting some time ago.

He said at that meeting they were informed about the creation of a new Municipal Assembly for Kasoa and its environs.

The Electoral Officers, according to the chief, said since Nyanyano and Kasoa had virtually become twin towns, they would prefer that they (Nyanyano) became part of the new municipality.

Nana Dr Wiabo said he made it clear to the officials that Nyanyano would only agree to become part of the municipality if only it would be called Odupong Kpehe-Nyanyano Municipal Assembly.

He said because they did not want to be servants to the new assembly, he suggested to the officials that aside the naming; the decentralised departments’ offices must be evenly sited in Nyanyano and Kasoa.

The Chief said he made all these suggestions because he wanted speedy development for his people which he thought would come faster by aligning to a municipal assembly.

He said he was aware that Nyanyano was part of Gomoa land and would never breakaway from the Gomoa Akyempim paramountcy to create his own paramountcy.

“Purely, my decision to give a thought to the request made by the Electoral Officers is about development,” he stated.

Nana Dr Wiabo expressed concern about the inability of the Omanhen to invite him to explain matters to him before the press conference was held.
