Nyariga Donne Girls School cries for help

The Nyariga Donne Girls School in the Bolgatanga Municipality lack trained teachers and logistics needed to run the school.

It was initiated by the Nyariga Donne Mothers Club and established in 1998 at Nyariga, to help promote girl child education.

The challenges are seriously affecting academic progress of the school, which used to perform better during the early stages of its establishment, Mr John Akaribo, Coordinator of the Mothers Club and Founder of the School, said this at a durbar at Nyariga on Tuesday, on the theme, ‘Addressing the challenges of education, the role of the child and stakeholders’.

Mr Akaribo bemoaned the lack of trained teachers at the Primary School as well as trained teachers in the primary except the Headmistress

“You will agree with me that primary Education is the basic foundation for good academic performance, but it is rather unfortunate that the Girls Primary has never had trained teachers apart from the Head teacher”.

He said the Volunteer teachers, who were handling the Primary School had not been paid for the past seven years and that was affecting teaching and learning.

He said one of the major problems confronting the school was the lack of a public place of convenience for both the teachers and the students, leading to open defecation.

Mr Akaribo, called on the District Assembly and other stakeholders, especially Non-Governmental Organizations, to come to the aid of the school and to also help complete a six room teachers quarters for the primary school initiated by the Mothers Club in 2012.

He said the Primary School needs to be rehabilitated as well as the construction of a Computer lab for the Junior High School.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Ayagle, pledged the assembly’s support and appealed to the Management of the school to exercise restraint, since government is aware that education was a pre-requisite for development.**
