Nzulezu to go through transformation – GTA

NZULEZU, the famous village that sits on water, is to go through a massive transformation, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has pledged.

The Western Regional Director of the authority, Michael Kpingbi, who made this known in an interview, said the wonder village, located in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, is one of the many tourism potentials in the country and deserves a facelift.

He said GTA would take into account the challenges of the estimated population of 700 people in the village, as well as the concerns of tourists in undertaking the renovation.

Mr Kpingbi said his office was aware that the living condition of the inhabitants in the village left much to be desired, and “these are some of the issues we will address”.

Investigations conducted by The Finder revealed that the village lacks basic social amenities such as good health facility and a school.

It was learnt that residents of Nzulezu and tourists all use same toilet facilities and a waste disposal system, which unfortunately usually end up uncollected, leading to the pollution of the river on which the village stands, thus creating a potential health hazard.

But Mr Kpingbi was quick to assure that all these challenges have been factored into the transformational agenda of the tourist site.

He said plans were far advanced to address the challenges to make the facility one of the best tourist destinations in the country.

According to him, a biogas project was currently under construction, with the UNWTO and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts providing the necessary funding for the project.

“We are all very much aware that Nzulezu has a high touristic value and we are determined to go to every length to improve on the livelihood of the people in the area.

“But let me your platform to appeal for support from the world at large as well as civil society to assist us provide a first-class facility that would keep tourists streaming to the place,” Mr Kpingbi stressed.
