Bolgatanga, Oct 7, GNA - The youth of Our Lady Queen of Africa (OLA) Parish in Bolgatanga are building a working centre with the help from the people and government of Jersey, Channel Islands in the United Kingdom.
The building, estimated at 300 million cedis has an office, sewing/workroom, a store, bedroom, general hall and toilet facilities. The government of Jersey provided the funds, while 12 volunteers from that city have come to work on the building with the youth of the area for three weeks.
The Rev. Father Kuha Indyer, Youth Chaplain of the Parish, who welcomed the volunteers and led them to start work, said the building would be used as a training centre for the youth, who are being taught dressmaking and tie and dye/batik making.
He said the parish had started training the youth in various vocational ventures and the building was meant to house them. adding, "The plan is to have the batik made and the sewing and marketing done under the same roof."
The team leader of the volunteers, Mr Alan Cameron, said the Jersey government is providing the funds from its special Overseas Aid Fund that is used to help Africa and South America countries in areas of education, health and water.
He said the team volunteered to come and help the youth in the parish and also get to know Ghana, learn the culture and interact with the people, with the hope of enriching their own lives and knowledge. 07 Oct. 03
