The Army Cadet Band of Our Lady of Providence Girls’ Senior High School (OLP Girls’ SHS) in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region was adjudged the second runner-up in the 2024 National Cadet Music Competition for Senior High Schools in Tamale.

The 10th edition of the National Cadet Drill and Band Competition, which was on the theme “Peace and Stability: The Role of the Youth,” witnessed 40 cadet corpses and cadet bands from senior high schools across the country competing for the coveted prize.

Displaying a series of well-coordinated choreographed movements with precision, intricate formations, and musically engaging performances, the OLP Girls’ SHS Army Cadet Band outclassed other participating schools to earn a spot on the podium after Oyoko Methodist Senior School and Kumasi Secondary Technical School had clinched the first and second positions, respectively.

Receiving the plaque at a short ceremony in the school, the acting headmistress, Sister Showrillu Allam, congratulated members of the cadet band for their enthusiasm and dedication in elevating the image of the school at the event.

“This award is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and passion, which have projected the school to the outside world, and management is highly grateful and appreciative of the gestures of all the band members,” she said.

She used the opportunity to encourage the entire student body to emulate the feat chalked by the band members by similarly working hard to project the school in other endeavours to the outside world.

“I would like to use this opportunity to urge you all in the school to take a cue from the band's success and work hard to achieve the same success stories for the school,” she added.

Frimpong Sampson, the Master in Charge (MIC) of the OLP Army Cadet Band, assured the headmistress that the award was the beginning of many laurels to come and appealed for continuous support from management.

“This award is the beginning of many good things to come, and I am giving you the assurance that we will bring the ultimate next year, so we are appealing to management to continue to support us,” he said.

The 2024 National Cadet Music Competition was organized by the National Cadet Corps Ghana (NCCG) as part of activities to commemorate their 70th anniversary and promote music and discipline among the youth.
