The Old Mawuli Students’ Union (OMSU) 2004 alumni year group marked a significant milestone as members gathered at the African Regent Hotel to launch their 20th-anniversary celebrations.
The event, themed " 20 years of Excellence, Celebrating Our Past, Inspiring Our Future” highlighted the group's achievements since their inception and set the stage for future endeavours.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Eli Ampim, President of the OMSU 2004 year group, reflected on the journey since their graduation in 2004. He detailed the numerous projects undertaken by the alumni to benefit Mawuli School, including educational and infrastructural improvements and other socially impactful initiatives. "Our shared commitment has transformed our alma mater and positively influenced our communities," he stated.
The celebration continued with a keynote address by Dr. Suzy Aku Puplampu, a distinguished alumna from the 1990 year group. Her speech emphasised the importance of anniversaries as moments to reflect on past achievements and inspire future aspirations. "Anniversaries are opportunities to celebrate milestones and realign our priorities," Dr. Puplampu noted. She praised the year group's enduring bonds and the power of their collective efforts.
Dr. Puplampu also highlighted the theme of the event, encouraging members to document their experiences and contributions. She urged the group to engage more actively in their projects and maintain their spirit of camaraderie. "Our time in Mawuli School was filled with knowledge, skills, and attitudes that defined us. Let’s share our stories and inspire others to greatness," she said.
In line with the anniversary celebrations, a fundraising activity was launched for an anniversary project chosen by the OMSU 2004 project committee in partnership with the OMSU national committee for projects. The chosen project aims to provide a minimum of 100 desk to Mawuli School. By the end of the event, an impressive amount of GHC 140,000 was pledged by the members present.
The Chairman for the event, Mr. Jerry Senyo Otchi an alumna of 1988/90 year group also supported the project with a cash donation GHS 10,000.
An interview was conducted with the treasurer of the OMSU 2004 year group, Selasi Dzikunu, who encouraged all members, both locally and globally, to join in raising funds for the project. "This initiative will go a long way towards positively impacting the current students of Mawuli School," Selasi Dzikunu emphasised, urging widespread participation to ensure the project's success.
The OMSU 2004 alumni's anniversary launch was not only a celebration of their past but also a call to action for the future. The event underscored the importance of unity, perseverance, and the impactful role of alumni networks. As they look forward to their future endeavours, the OMSU 2004-year group remains committed to fostering a sense of belonging and giving back to their alma mater and society.
The launch event concluded with a renewed pledge to support Mawuli School and continue their legacy of excellence. The OMSU 2004-year group aims to inspire future generations of Mawulians through their example of dedication and success.
