Ningo (G/A), Nov. 23, GNA - Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram, has accused the Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey of disorganising the Capital City since he took up the portfolio.

He said Accra was now full of filth and choked drains with its pavements clustered with traders right from Makola to East Legon and this had made market women unhappy because buyers no longer went inside markets to buy their goods.

He was speaking at a National Democratic Congress (NDC) rally at New Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.

The MP expressed regret about how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) abandoned some of the projects initiated by the NDC and mentioned the bridge connecting Old and New Ningo, which was awarded on contract at a cost of 600 million cedis but had now increased to 16 billion cedis. He also mentioned the road connecting the two towns, which had also been abandoned and alleged that when he raised the issue in Parliament, the Minister in charge of Road and Transport said it was under construction "knowing very well that it was just recently when the Vice President was visiting the area on his campaign tour that they graded it."

Mr Mensah, however, promised to promote tourism to generate income for the residents of area when given the mandate.

He said increase in utility tariffs was a clear indication that the NPP had failed Ghanaians and could not fulfil its campaign promises. He expressed optimism at retaining his seat and urged the people to also return the NDC to power to continue its good works. The NDC Regional Chairman, Mr Joshua Alabi, advised the people to come out and exercise their franchise on Election Day since that was the only way they could chose the right people to lead them.

The wife of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of NDC, Mrs Naadu Mills advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians in order not to find themselves in the hands of the Police during the elections because their vote would count for the area.

She urged the people to vote for the incumbent MP and Professor Mills to lessen their hardships.
