Obuasi Methodist sets up fund for the needy

Obuasi, April 21, GNA - The Obuasi Wesley Methodist Cathedral on Sunday launched a special fund with a seed-money of 22 million cedis to assist the needy in the church to establish small-scale businesses. The fund known as 'Osei-Yeboah Help Fund' was also aimed at assisting young Christians to improve their lives.

It was instituted by Mr Jacob Osei-Yeboah, a staunch member of the church in appreciation of the role the church members played through fasting and prayers, which led to the Lord healing him of cancer. A seven-member board of trustees headed by Mr J.N. Williams, a leader of the church, has been set up to manage the fund, which is expected to be revolving.

Mr Osei-Yeboah, who is also the West Africa Manager for Sherwood International, a major key supplier of mining items based in South Africa, explained that praying and fasting alone were not adequate to make one a complete Christian unless one assisted the needy in society. "Life is a gift from God and it is therefore expedient to share our lives with others to make this world a better place to live". Mr Osei-Yeboah added that a lot of young Christians were finding life very difficult and if they are helped they could worship God better.

The Very Reverend Samuel Fred Ansu, Superintendent Minister of the Obuasi circuit of the church, who launched the fund, urged the congregation to develop a new approach to worshipping God and also emulate the good work of Mr. Osei-Yeboah. An appeal for funds towards the Osei-Yeboah Help Fund yielded 9.6 million cedis out of which 3.2 million cedis was donated to Adullam Orphanage at Obuasi.
