Accra, May 25, GNA- Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie-Komme, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodioo Constituency in Accra, has on Africa Liberation Day, praised Dr Kwame Nkrumah for his vision and bravery that enabled the Osagyefo to win the Odododiodioo Constituency seat as a launch-pad for Ghana's independence. Then known as Accra Central Constituency, Nii Tackie-Komme said Dr Nkrumah stood against the odds as a non-native of Accra, contested and won the seat and eventually entered Parliament.

Nii Tackie-Komme made the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on his impressions about the celebration of the centenary birthday of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah currently taking place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which used to be called the Old Polo Grounds. He said he felt elated and proud, explaining that it was historic for the constituency to be the starting point of Dr Nkrumah's journey into Parliament and at the same time where Ghana's independence was declared. "Even years after, look at how many dignitaries have gathered here from across Africa, the African Diaspora and the Diplomatic Community to climax the centenary celebration of the man whose vision has had so much influence on Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world," Nii Tackie-Komme noted. The MP paid tribute to his late father Nii Tackie Tawiah II, who he said was then the Ga Mantse, for supporting Dr Nkrumah into parliament despite objections from some of the Ga indigenes that Dr Nkrumah was not a Ga, but hailed from Nzema.

The Odododidioo MP expressed thanks to President John Evans Atta Mills and the Government of Ghana under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for celebrating Dr Kwame Nkrumah whose vision has brought Ghana and Africa this far. "Despite Nkrumah's foresight, some saw him as having parochial interests, but I'm happy that he was firm with his ideals which have survived him. Truly, Nkrumah never dies," Nii Tackie-Komme said. 25 May 10
