Obuasi, March 25, GNA - The Odotobri Rural Bank at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District has granted a bursary of one million cedis each to nine female students in the Obuasi Municipality who are in senior secondary schools.

Sarah Addai, a student at the Akrokerri Training College also received 500,000 cedis.

Mr S.B. Ahmed, a Manager of the bank, said other students would benefit from the scheme since the bank was committed to support needy but brilliant students to pursue their education. Mr Kofi Nti, the Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Finance and Administration at the Obuasi Municipal Education Office, said the gesture was in the right direction since the beneficiary students are "really needy girls who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)".

He said what the bank had done would help the students to access senior secondary education.

Mr Nti said the girl-child education was being encouraged in the municipality and commended the bank for their support in that direction. "The bank's bursary grant will help improve girl-child education in the municipality", he said.

Mr Nti further urged other girls in the junior secondary schools to take inspiration from the bursary and study hard so that they too could also be assisted.

He expressed concern about drop out girls in the municipality and advised them to appreciate the importance of education by going back to school.
