Kumasi, Sept. 29, GNA- A two-member delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) on Wednesday met officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and other stakeholders to hold discussions for the commencement of the Oforikrom-Asokwa bypass project. The 20-million-dollar project, which is being funded by the AFD would involve the construction of a dual carriage way from Oforikrom to the Timber gardens at Asokwa.
A storm drain for the Aboabo stream would also be constructed to solve the perennial flooding in communities along the stream. The project would also involve a massive upgrading of Anloga, Asokwa and Ahinsan by constructing schools, markets, streetlights and roads in the communities.
Mr Yves Guiquero, Deputy Resident Manager of AFD, said the meeting was to hold discussions with all the stakeholders to iron out all issues to pave the way for the commencement of the project.
He announced that the Agency would soon sign an agreement with the Ghana government to pave the way for the commencement of the project. Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, KMA Chief Executive, said the project would improve the living conditions of the people in the affected communities and also relieve them of the perennial flooding and traffic congestion in the area.
Mr Jumah appealed to all stakeholders to co-operate to ensure that the project was completed on time. He thanked the French government for its continued assistance to Ghana and said the project would transform the city of Kumasi.
