The outgoing Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Constituency, Dr. Emmanuel Kwabena Marfo, has officially inaugurated a fence project at Appeadu R.C JHS School.
The construction of the fence, which began earlier this year at an undisclosed amount, was completed and commissioned on December 27, 2024.
The primary purpose of the fence is to provide security for students, protect school property, and improve the overall teaching and learning environment.
In an interview with the media, Dr. Marfo emphasized the importance of providing a secure learning environment for students and teachers.
He noted that many schools are plagued by intruders who engage in illicit activities such as drug use, vandalism, and even defecation in classrooms. This disrupts the learning process and hinders students' ability to focus on their studies.
Dr. Marfo explained that using part of the MPs Common Fund to build the fence was necessary to address these issues and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students at Appeadu R.C JHS.
"Most urban schools without fencing face significant teaching and learning challenges. Unfortunately, these schools often experience trespassing, substance abuse, and other illicit activities, including indecent behaviour and vandalism in classrooms. As a result, students struggle to focus on their studies due to constant disruptions from outside activities. To address this issue, I deemed it necessary to allocate funds from the MPs Common Fund to construct a wall for Appeadu R.C JHS." He disclosed.
The outgoing lawmaker said the initiative to construct fences for all government schools in his constituency is part of the Oforikrom Municipal's policy to protect school lands from encroachment and enhance the teaching and learning processes.
"The Oforikrom Municipal's initiative to construct fences for all government schools is a key part of our policy. This initiative also aims to protect or secure the schools' lands from encroachers. This effort will ultimately enhance our schools' teaching and learning experience, fostering a more effective and productive environment for our students."
He indicated that the fence at Appeadu R.C JHS is one of his legacy projects in the constituency.
"As an outgoing MP, I believe that this initiative will be remembered as one of my legacy projects in the Oforikrom Constituency." Dr. Marfo declared.
