Oguaa Traditional Council appeals for spraying of lagoon

Cape Coast, July 25, GNA - The President of the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, on Friday appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly to spray the Fosu Lagoon infested with mansonia mosquitoes, which causes elephantiasis.

He said the amount of silt and pollution in the lagoon called for immediate action to stem an epidemic.

Osabarima made the appeal at a meeting of the Council at Cape Coast, which discussed indiscipline in the society and the enforcement of three bye-laws banning begging, schools children from attending funerals and wake keepings and impose sanctions on parents who refuse to send their children to school.

The law bans people from begging for alms at public places like markets, Church and streets with offenders attracting fines not exceeding 200,000 cedis or prison terms of three months. It also bans children below the age of 18-years from loitering or attending funerals after 9.00 PM while parents refusing to send their children to school attracts a fine of 200,000 cedis or three months imprisonment.
