Oguaa basic schools get science resource centre

Mr Ebo Barton Odro, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, has called on students at the basic school level to demystify the notion that science and mathematics are reserved for special people.

He said the two subjects are very important, and every student is supposed to pass before moving to the next level of the academic ladder and must be studied with all seriousness.

Mr Odro said at a ceremony to inaugurate a science resource centre for basic schools in the Cape Coast Metropolis.

The resource centre, situated at Abura T.I Ahmadiyya Basic School is expected to benefit more than 10 basic schools in the Metropolis and could serve more than 600 students in a week.

Mr Odro said with the establishment of science resource centre, students would get the opportunity to acquire scientific knowledge and practical skills through hands on activities and experimentation.

He called on the teachers to dedicate time to teach the students who would patronise the centre and urged parents and other stakeholders to ensure effective maintenance of the facility.

Ms Florence Inkoom, Metropolitan Director of Education, said for Ghana to reach an appreciable level of development and improvement in the quality of life, there would be the need to train the youth to acquire relevant scientific knowledge.

She said the resource centre would help Ghana Education Service to achieve its objective of raising a new generation of students with strong foundation in science and technology and a solid ability for creative thinking.

She urged the students to take advantage of the facility and learn very hard to improve upon their performance in science and develop interest to pursue science to the highest level.
