Oguaa residents think Government has done well

Cape Coast, Jan. 1, GNA - A cross-section of residents of Cape Coast on New Year's eve gave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government a pass mark and expressed the hope that it would continue with its good works in the New Year.

The residents, who were speaking in separate interviews with the Ghana News Agency at Cape Coast, however, said there was the need for the Government to create more jobs for the people.

Maame Ekua Mensimah, a Fishmonger aged between 65 and 70, Mr Sammy Adjei, a 27-year-old Cabbie and Master Florius Aidoo and Master Jacob Ashun, both aged 19 and Senior Secondary School graduates, commended the Government for its good works.

Madam Angelina Ackerson, a 36-year-old Trader, expressed similar sentiments but urged the Government "to do something about the high school fees" which she said had become a problem for many parents. To Mr John Turkson, a 75- year-old Pensioner, the Government had done its best within its short term in office, but said life in the past year, was "topsy-turvy" for him, and that he "hoped for a better life in the New Year".

Mr Thomas Donkoh, a 37-year-old Watchman at the Comptroller and Accountant - General's Department, said although the Government had performed well, there was the need for an improvement in the remuneration of workers.

Mr Kofi Edu Annan, a Local Preacher at the Wesley Methodist Church, said "there is no problem with the Government", and that all Ghanaians have to strive hard to eliminate corruption and other negative practices that hindered development.

Mr James Sagoe-Pyne, a Business Executive, said Ghanaians should work harder to help boost the economy and not blame the Government for their predicament.

Mr Abraham Ansolem, a 71-year-old Retired Educationist, said the Government should intensify efforts to curb indiscipline in the society and create more jobs, since many of the nation's youth were unemployed. Mrs Mary Mensah, a 52-year-old Fishmonger, commended the Government and urged it to help ensure the maintenance of the peaceful atmosphere in the country to enhance development.
