The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, has highlighted the necessity of decentralizing Ghana's healthcare system to improve service delivery.

He asserts that decentralization would enable health institutions to make decisions that are in the best interest of the general populace, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare.

The chief emphasized that decentralization is essential for attaining sustainable development goals and advocated for a move towards less-centralized governance.

These comments were made during a visit by Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, the newly appointed Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), as he toured the Eastern Region.

Dr. Aboagye echoed the importance of promoting the establishment of travel medical insurance in Ghana, which would provide healthcare access to diasporans who have long favoured Ghana as their holiday destination, particularly following the initiation of the 'Year of Return' and the 'Beyond the Return.' campaigns.
