Elubo (W/R), Nov. 29, GNA - Awulae Annor Adjaye III, Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Area, on Tuesday appealed to parties engaged in protracted land and chieftaincy litigations at Elubo to smoke the peace pipe to enable the area to develop.

He made the appeal at the commissioning of a 22-seater water closet public place of convenience and a 70-feet footbridge at the Elubo border.

The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) supported the two projects, estimated at 500 million cedis, with financial assistance from some companies operating in the area.

Awulae Adjaye who presided over the occasion said litigations were retarding the development of the Elubo Township, which is the hub of economic activities.

He said land litigations were making it difficult for projects to take off and advised those involved to re-consider their position. Awulae Adjaye said all lands in the area belonged to the Western Nzema Traditional Council and should be properly acquired. He said developers who have destroyed crops of farmers should adequately compensate the farmers. Awulae Adjaye said the township would be safe for economic and commercial activities when disputes are stamped out. He advised migrant farmers and people doing business in the area not to dabble in land and chieftaincy litigations to polarise the area. Awulae Adjaye said the security agencies and the churches should help unite the area instead of aligning with forces detrimental to the development of the area. He called on the CEPS to invest some of its revenue collected in the area in development projects. Awulae Adjaye also asked the Jomoro District Assembly to implement planned development projects in the area, irrespective of the political leanings of the people. The government should also tar roads in the township without considering the political affiliation of the people, he said.
