Omanhene of Edina dedicates birthday to clean Elmina

Nana Kodwo Condua VI, Omanhene of Edina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality of the Central Region on Tuesday dedicated his 53rd birth-day anniversary celebration to clean-up Elimina and its environs.

The exercise would be followed with a street jam on November 13, a get-together party on the November 14 and climax with a thanks giving service on November 15 at the Elimina Church of Pentecost.

The anniversary is on the theme: “Maintaining Peace, Unity and Development at its Best.”

The Chief was joined by the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Central Regional Minister, Thomas Aquinas Quansah, Municipal Chief Executive, Mr I. K. Sam and other members in the traditional area.

He said the clean-up exercise was to indicate to the citizenry that cleaning plays an important role in our lives and encourage others to emulate his example.

Nana Condua called on government to strengthen the laws backing traditional authorities to maintain good sanitation practices.

This he said would enhance and promote environmental health and also change the attitudes of the citizenry.

The Omanhene expressed appreciation to the ministers and the people of the area for turning out in their numbers and asked them to help maintain the peace in the area.

Alhaji Dauda gave a one week ultimatum to the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipal Assembly to place waste bins at all strategic points in Elmina.

He said chiefs are agents of development and as such there is the need for government to partner them in the execution of projects.

The Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South said sanitation issue is among the top priorities of the government of President John Dramani Mahama.

He thanked the chief for dedicating his birth-day to clean his traditional area and expressed appreciation to the people for participating in the exercise.

Mr Quansah reiterated that Regional Coordinating Council is committed to sustain and strengthen the National Sanitation Day exercise.

He said the council has also instituted an award for the best clean metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region to beef up the exercise in the region.
