One person has been injured in a shooting incident which occurred Sunday at Aburi-Atwiasin in the Eastern region over Chieftaincy dispute.

The incident occurred when the Queenmother for Atwiasin, Nana Afua Sarfowaah attempted to enstool a new chief to replace Nana Frimpong Kodua II Canadian based Chief of the area who was customarily suspended by the traditional council over misconduct about two years.

The London based Queen mother of Atwiasin upon return to the area has made attempts to bypass the Kingmakers to install a new Chief but couldn’t succeed due to opposition by the kingmakers.

Last month, hell nearly broke loose in the community when the Queen mother again allegedly attempted to install the Amankrado of Gyankama in the person of Nana Kwabena Osae as Chief of Atwiasin.

The case was reported to the Akropong Traditional Council and subsequently to the Aburi Police following which the process was foiled.

However on Sunday morning, the Queen mother upon realising that, the Kingmakers had gone to their Churches to fellowship, accompanied by armed landguards broke into the Chiefs Palace while carrying shoulder high the Amankrado of Gyankama, Nana Kwabena Osae to perform customary rites for him to be installed Chief of Atwiasin.

The action triggered confusion leading to gunshots allegedly fired by guards of the Queen mother with some of the pellets hitting one Kwame Asiedu who attempted to resist them, injuring him in the process.

Police personnel from the Aburi rushed to the scene after the incident. No arrest was made yet.

The Kingmakers have made official complaint to Police.

The Kingmakers headed by Oheneba Kwame Gyan are expected to meet Aburihene, Otobuor Gyan Kwasi II over the matter.
