Government is currently undertaking a number of road network upgrades across the country, pursuant to its avowed transformational agenda of improving the infrastructural needs of the nation.
One of such, is the 25-kilometer-road network in the Ho Township of the Volta Region.
The work being undertaken by a local contractor with a good track record regarding on-time execution of contracts/works- First Sky Limited- is expected to be completed by June this year.
In an interview with its Chief Executive Officer [CEO], Mr. Eric Sedy Kutortse, he appealed to drivers plying the Ho Municipality roads to cooperate with the First Sky contractors for it to be able to execute the work on schedule since majority of the work would be done in the night.
The choosing of the nightly period, Mr. Kutortse further explained, was to avoid inconveniencing the general public, particularly drivers of the areas, whose work would variously be affected.
Mr. Sedy Kutortse made the appeal during an inspection tour by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Innusah Fuseini, to acquaint himself with work done so far, as well as witness the trial-run of asphalt.
On his part, Minister Fuseini said the choice of local contractors to undertake most of the on-going road works across the country was to afford them the opportunity to prove their proficiency and, especially, to exhibit the experience gained.
Alhaji Fuseini disclosed also that, apart from the Ho township-roads currently undergoing some facelift, Hohoe and Keta town roads would also receive similar attention from government as part of its general infrastructural development agenda.
The Roads and Highways Minister observed that the thickness of the asphalt on the road which is about 70-millimetres represents the standard for any urban road construction, and expressed confidence that First Sky Limited, given it profile, would do a good job.
Accompanying Mr. Innusah Fuseini on the tour were; Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister; chiefs of the Ho Asogli State, as well as other officials from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
