Onua Pa Foundation, an NGO which advocates responsible care for the aged, has organised its 5th medical and dental screening for the elderly.
This event, which was held at Adukrom, Akuapem, comes after two others which took place earlier this year at Abiriw and Apirede both in the Eastern Region. Led by a team of volunteers- medical officers and dentists, the foundation screened and treated women and men for various sicknesses of the mouth and the teeth. Other people also benefited from hypertension checks and counselling on how to deal with obesity.
Speaking during the question and answer session, Dr Nana Ampomah, head of the medical team, advised the elderly and the general public to maintain good oral hygiene since that prevents other serious ailments which can affect the body.
As part of the programme, many people were also invited to participate in a fundraising launch in support of a seniors centre for Adukrom and surrounding towns and villages. The centre will serve as the health and recreation facility for the aged.
In his closing remarks, Mr Andrews Akuoko, a retired Director of Education, who chaired the function, appealed to the youth to willingly mobilise to support the foundation since they also stood to benefit from the use of the seniors centre in future.
In his concluding remarks, the Chairman of Onua Pa Foundation, Mr Blessed Ayisi, expressed appreciation to the many individuals who pledged to assist the foundation to meet its objectives.
He further announced that their next activity would be held at Obosomase-Akuapem.
