Funsi (U/W), July 14, GNA – The indiscriminate burial of corpses and the open defecation in the environment is showing no signs of abating in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region.
This unfortunate development continue to happen despite the numerous sensitization programs carried out by the District Assembly to curb the problem.
Mr Ameen Salifu, Wa East District Chief Executive expressed his concern over this worrying situation during the Assembly’s first ordinary meeting at Funsi, the District capital.
He said he felt disturbed when a corpse was buried just three meters away from a borehole sunk by the Assembly.
Mr Salifu pledged the commitment of the Assembly to make all communities in the district habitable and warned that his office would not hesitate to deal ruthlessly with people who endangered the lives of others through indiscriminate burial of corpses and open defecation.
Mr Salifu used the opportunity to issue a directive to the District Environmental Health Officers to take appropriate action against any individual or group who would flout the laws of the Assembly.
The DCE also appealed to the Assembly and Unit Committee members to work closely with their chiefs to help end the unfortunate abuse of the environment.
He again urged them to double their revenue mobilization efforts to enable the Assembly to reach its revenue target of GH¢11,227,667.63 by the end of the year.
