Optical Centre screens and provide spectacles free of charge

Hohoe, Nov. 3, GNA- Sir Wilson Vision Optical Centre at Hohoe in the Volta region, has since 1999 screened 9,878 persons with eye diseases provided free spectacles to 200 persons while 3,145 spectacles were sold to the public at cheap prices.

Manager of the Centre, Mr Kwame Kruschev Appiah, announced this at an awards ceremony last Saturday to honour the outgoing board members of the Centre.

The Sight Savers International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) sponsored the programme.

Mr Appiah appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to assist the Centre with vehicles to enable it perform its outreach programmes.

Mr Treant Huon, the new Australian Manager of the Centre said emphasis would be placed on eye screening among pupils and students in the district.

Mr James Komla Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE) commended the former board members for the efficient management of the centre. He praised the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana for its assistance to the successes of the Centre so far and pledged the Assembly's support for greater achievements.
