Orientation training for assembly members in Ellembelle District

Nkroful, (W/R), July 1, GNA - A three-day orientation training workshop for assembly members in the Ellembelle District has begun with a call on assembly members to co-operate with other actors in the assembly.

It sought to promote popular participation in public decision-making process to enhance good governance and the rule of law.

The District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Daniel Eshun, at the opening ceremony, appealed to the assembly members to partake fully in the training to enable them to be abreast with their duties and responsibilities as assembly members.

The facilitator of the workshop, Mr Richard Kambootah, said the exercise would take the assembly members through the Local Government Structure, Local Governance and the Assembly concept and also the Roles and functions of assembly members and other actors in local governance.

He explained that the training would give the Assembly members, especially the new ones, an in-depth knowledge of their duties and obligations, as well as, gives them the insight into the work of the District Assemblies.

Mr Kambootah said the training is conducted every four years, to equip Assembly members on how to perform their work, as well as educate them on Standing Orders, since some assembly members may be new to their specific duties.

The Assembly Member for Esiama-Kpole, Mr Felix Quayeson, in an interview, indicated that, the training had given him an insight into effective leadership and has also offered him the opportunity to understand the legislation, policies and regulations guiding the local government concept.
