Osabarima Agyei swears oath to Buemhene

Okadjakrom, May 14, GNA - Osabarima Antwi Agyei V, the new chief of Okadjakrom and Twafohene of the Buem Traditional Area, in the Jasikan District of the Volta Region, at the weekend, swore the oath of allegiance to Nana Aburam Akpandja, Omanhene of Buem, at Bodada, the seat of the traditional area.

Nana Akpandja advised the new chief to collaborate with the council of elders, to enable him to tap their rich experiences and wisdom towards the development of the town.

The Omanhene advised Osabarima Agyei to be humble and dedicated to the people and cautioned: "My younger brother, do not be carried away by praise singing. You should be circumspect in dealing with the people and investigate thoroughly matters before passing judgement". The new chief pledged to unite the people and cooperate with Nana Akpandja and his other sub-chiefs of Buem to work towards the elimination of widespread ignorance, diseases, illiteracy and poverty in the area.

In an interview with the GNA after the ceremony, Osabarima Agyei commended government's efforts at promoting education in the country and appealed to parents to take advantage of the capitation grant to enrol their children in school.

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction at the falling standards of education and indiscipline in Okadjakrom and Buem and announced that a committee had been established to solve the problems in the town. Osabarima Agyei reminded parents that the best legacy they could bequeath to their children was good education adding that a task force had been formed to deal with parents who would allow their children to loaf about instead of going to school.

He observed that the people spent lavishly on social functions instead of investing in the welfare of the their children and said a body had been asked to organise all funerals to reduce cost. Osabarima Agyei said a finance committee had been formed to manage the sale of sand, bamboo and other resources to generate funds for development.

He said: "The development programme is a little ambitious and I appeal to my people both at home and abroad to contribute in cash and in kind towards its implementation." Osabarima Agyei, a senior tax administrator of the Internal Revenue Service at the Asankragwa District office, who was enstooled chief in January, succeeds the late Nana Kodam Agyei IV, who died five years ago.
