Osu Mantse calls for corporate support

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, Paramount Chief of Osu, has called on corporate bodies to collaborate with the Traditional Council to help develop the area.

He noted that Osu is perceived a developed community and therefore the resource meant for it from official sources are not forthcoming hence the need for support from stakeholders.

Nii Kinka Dowuona made the appeal at a news conference to climax the annual Homowo festival of the chiefs and people of Osu on Tuesday.

The chief and his elders led the people to sprinkle the “Kpokpoi” the traditional meal along the principal streets of Osu amidst heavy rains.

Homowo is celebrated by the Ga-Dangme people to hoot at hunger and also serve as a platform for family reunion.

Nii Kinka Dowuona also the President of the Traditional Council described this year’s Osu Homowo as unique and historic since it was celebrated peacefully and successfully.

He said: “As leaders (chiefs and elders) we are the eyes and the ears of the people and therefore it is our duty to ensure that there is always peace and stability in the area for development.

“And since I took over the reign of Osu I have not relented in my efforts in bringing development to the people as the renovated Palace could speak for itself.”

He said the Council has decided to fence the Royal Mausoleum and the construction of a museum to keep the traditional artifacts while a three-storey public toilet facility would be put up.

Nii Kinka Dowuona said in a bid to curb the rampant road blockades in the town the Council would construct a community centre to cater for social activities.

Some of the activities which formed part of the Osu Homowo celebrations were health walk, clean-up exercise, free health screening, home-coming jam and sports.

Osu, La, Teshie, Prampram and Ningo in the South-Eastern of Accra celebrated the festival on the same day after the Lante Dzan We and Ga Mashie had their turn.
