Otoase(E/R), April 12, GNA - Farmers of Otoase in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar District at the weekend appealed to the Forestry Department and the Environmental Protection Agency to check illegal chain saw operations that were destroying several hectares of farms in the area.
The farmers alleged that over 30 trees were fell recently, resulting in the destruction of the environment and food crops estimated to cost over 500 million cedis.
Opanin Opare Asante, the spokesman for the farmers made this known to the Ghana News Agency after they met to find ways of stopping illegal chain saw activities in the area at Suhum. He appealed to the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area to help find solution to the problem.
