The Obomengman Association, a union of citizens of Kwahu Obomeng in Accra, Tema, Takoradi and the Northern part of the country have awarded prizes to 65 hardworking and dedicated teachers at Obomeng in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region.
The gesture, under the Chairmanship of Nana Effah Opinamang III, the Chief of Obomeng, was to help promote quality education delivery in the community and beyond.
The teachers who were rewarded were selected from public basic schools and the Obomeng Anson Senior High School.
Speaking on the theme: "Quality Education Delivery, The Role of Stakeholders", Mr. Siaw Ampadu, the Chairman of the Obomengman Association in Accra, Tema and Takoradi, said the Association set aside GH¢25,000.00 to ensure the success of the programme.
Some of the items presented to the award winners included deep freezers, gas cooker, television sets, standing fans among others.
He said it was a five- year programme introduced by the Association to continuously reward hardworking teachers in communities within the Obomeng Traditional Area.
He hinted that the programme would soon be extended to smaller communities such as Wawase, Odumase and others.
Mr Ampadu said the Association had plans of collaborating with the Kwahu South District Education Directorate to modernize some selected public schools to be on the same standard with some of the private schools in the area.
He disclosed of plans to also construct bungalows for teachers posted to the area to help ease the accommodation challenges they faced.
Mr Sampson Klu, the Kwahu South Director of Education, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the Association for the gesture.
He however pleaded with government to recognize Obomeng when selections were being done for the National Teachers Awards to help lift the image of the community.
Nana Effah Opinamang III, the Chief of Obomeng, urged the teachers to abide by the rules and regulations put in place by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help promote quality teaching and learning in the country.
He entreated parents to take their wards to school to ensure more literate population in the area.
Nana said the traditional authorities in the area were making efforts to construct and renovate schools within their jurisdiction, to help create an enabling environment for quality education delivery.
