Oyoko (E/R), Dec. 12, GNA - The chief of Oyoko, near Koforidua, Nana Kodua Kesse II, has released part of the town's new palace to accommodate 50 students of the Oyoko Methodist Secondary School (OMESS) and some police personnel. To help address the acute accommodation problem facing the students, the community raised 22 million cedis to roof part of the new palace under construction for the students.

Addressing a special 'Akwasidae' festival of the chiefs and people on Sunday, Nana Kodua Kesse appealed to the government to speed up work on the upgrading of OMESS into a model school. He also appealed to the government to provide the school with electricity and a borehole to promote effective teaching and learning. The festival was celebrated on the theme: "Culture for the promotion of development".

Nana Kodua Kesse, who is also the Adontenhene of the New Juaben Traditional area, said the people had offered land for the construction of a police station and appealed to the government to come to their aid. He said the Oyoko Adonten Education Fund launched last year was aimed at mobilising financial assistance to needy but brilliant students.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah, who commended the chiefs and people for initiating development projects to improve their living conditions, assured them of the support of the Regional Co-ordinating Council. Mr Barimah called on Ghanaians not to allow their political difference to stifle development.

The Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman, who is also the Member of Parliament for Juaben North, donated 10 millions cedis towards the Education Fund and stressed the need for peace and unity among the people to enhance development.
