Sekyedumase (Ash), Aug. 17, GNA - The Parent Teacher Association (P.T.A) of the Sekyedumase Senior High School (SHS), has built a six-unit classroom block for the school, at the cost of GH¢50,000.
The project would enable the school to admit new students for this academic year.
Additionally, the PTA is supporting the construction of a GH¢150,000 dining hall and had so far provided about GH¢10,000 into the project.
Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Asiedu, headmaster of the school, said the school is also benefiting from two Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) supported projects - a 500-bed girls dormitory and an 18-unit classroom block.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the re-constituted 13-member Board of Governors of the school at Sekyedumase in the Ejura-Sekyedumase district.
Mr Asiedu mentioned a-boys' dormitory, headmaster and staff bungalows, among their major needs and appealed to the district assembly for assistance.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said he was happy with the partnership between the community and the school.
"Even though the ultimate responsibility of ensuring the child's right to education lies with the government, the challenge of transforming education cannot be met by the government alone", he said.
Mr Onyinah noted that, education is the single most critical factor in a child's overall development as well as the country's economic and social progress and must therefore be given more serious attention.
Mr Onyinah advised the Board to help strengthen the relationship between the school and community and also the efficient running of the school.
Professor Joshua Ayarkwa, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is the Chairman of the Board.
