PLHIV receive training on animal husbandry

Three hundred persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) drawn from Tamale, Yendi and Savelugu/Nanton assemblies in the Northern Region, have undergone training to equip them with techniques on animal husbandry in Tamale on Tuesday.

The objective of the training, organized by Mobility Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), was to widen income generating opportunities for participants to enhance their livelihoods and wealth creation.

The 300 PLHIV, who were participating in the training, had benefited from food supply from the WFP.

Mr Shraz Annas, Executive Director of Mobility Foundation, who opened the workshop, mentioned challenges in accessing formal and informal credit, lack of economic ventures as some of the challenges facing PLHIV.

He expressed the hope that the training would help to reduce poverty amongst PLHIV as well as ensure food security. He condemned the discrimination against PLHIV.

Mr. Sulemana Sulley, Northern Regional Chairman of Network of PLHIV/AIDS Support Group, said the training would provide the participants with alternative means to enhance their livelihoods.**
