Obuasi, Feb 25, GNA - Nana Asirifi Asare II, the Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA), has called for healthy community-police relations to promote effective security in the municipality.
He said the security of the municipality was paramount for the growth of the socio-economic activities of the people. Nana Asirifi Asare was interacting with a cross-section of the residents of Anyimadukrom, Boete and Tiatiaso as part of his tour of electoral areas in the municipality. He noted that improved security leading to peace and order could entice foreign investors and thereby create jobs for the unemployed youth.
He advised against situations where some members of the communities attacked police personnel and vandalized their stations. "As residents, we have to assist the security agencies and also to co-operate with them to create the environment that can promote business and also entice foreign investors", Nana Asirifi Asare said. Nana Asirifi Asare suggested to the communities to form neighbourhood watch committees to help the security agencies to check the activities of the miscreants in the society. The Presiding Member, who was accompanied by Mr Eric Oppong Agyeman, the Municipal Building Inspector, used the tour to impress upon house owners to contact the assembly to regularize their building permits.
He said it was an offence to put up a house in the municipality without obtaining building permit. Mr Stephen Addai, the assemblyman for Anyimadukrom, appealed to the assembly for additional block for the Kwabrafoso Local Authority Junior Secondary School and a place of convenience for the community.
