PROTOA and GPRTU members in near clash

Breman-Asikuma, Dec 24, GNA- Intervention by the Omanhene of Breman-Asikuma Traditional Area, Nana Amoakwa Boadu VII and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammed Fuseini, the Asikuma District Police Commander, averted a clash between two drivers' unions, PROTOA and the GPRTU, at Asikuma Lorry Park.

The near clash was the result of refusal of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Anfako, to allow members of PROTOA to load at the station.

On Monday Mr Yaw Fayah and Mr Kobina Aseidu, Regional Chairman and Chief Driver respectively of PROTOA, led the Asikuma branch to load at the station.

But in the process Mr Kwame Noah, Secretary of Asikuma branch of the GPRTU Number One, warned them to stop loading or they would face the wrath of his members.

Mr Fayah said Mr Noah later brought two policemen from Asikuma Police Station who told the drivers they were wanted by Mr Fuseini. Mr Fuseini showed them a letter from the office of the District Chief Executive that said the District Security Council had directed that PROTOA should not operate at the lorry park.

Mr Fayah said Mr Fuseini spoke to the two unions and PROTOA was allowed to load.

He said while the members were loading, policemen, numbering about five, stopped them from operating at the lorry park. When Mr Anfako was contacted he confirmed that the Security Council advised that if the two organisations operate at the same lorry park there would be no peace.

He said the assembly has asked the executives of the PROTOA to look for another area to operate and that if they gone any place convenient for them, the assembly would assist them to develop it.
