The Greater Accra Regional branch of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) has sworn into office, 11 officers to drive the union’s mission and vision for another four-year term.
About 80 delegates from various locals and branches in the region gathered at the Trade Union Congress office in Accra, to elect the officers to occupy the council membership, and women and youth committee affiliates positions, forming the structure of the union.
The regional council members had five positions – chairperson, first and second vice chairpersons as well as first and second trustees’ members, while the women committee featured – the chairperson, the vice chairperson and the secretary.
Three slots - the chairperson, the vice chairperson and the secretary was opened for the youth committee members.
The newly elected Regional Council chairperson, Mr Solomon Dzidzor Mensah, urged the leadership and rank and file of the union to work together to protect the core interest of members as contained in the collective bargaining agreement.
He noted that new dimensions in modern labour environment require dialogue and negotiations - and not demonstrations -to champion the course of workers.
Mr Mensah pledged the leadership’s commitment to work tirelessly with the local and international labour policies to ensure that the common interests of members are adequately guarded while efforts are made to guarantee improved working conditions.
Mr Debrah Gyamfi, National Chairman of PSWU enjoined the leaders to strive for the interest of members and work hard to uplift the image of the union in the region.
He said the union’s national delegates’ conference would be due later in the year in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to choose new officers
