PTA bans night activities in school

Leklebi (V/R), Feb. 11, GNA - The Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) of the Leklebi Secondary School in the Hohoe District has banned night activities, including entertainment, in the school.

Mr Benony Asimah, the immediate past PTA Chairman of the School, said this at the school's PTA meeting on Saturday. Mr Asimah said the action was to uplift moral standards and restore discipline in the school.

He said most day students and youths in the surrounding villages hijacked the school's night programmes and harass female students. " These acts cease to make our evening activities educative. As a result, discipline in the school had dropped." Mr Thomas Odikro, the Headmaster of the school, said the school had acquired telephone facilities, computers and Internet services to prevent students from going for such services in town and to improve on their academic performances.

He said the school's academic performance had increased from 35 percent in 20001 to 89 percent in 2006 and that a total of 10 students had gained admission to the University of Ghana and the KNUST. Mr Odikro appealed to the government to pay a little more attention to less endowed schools in the provision of resources, saying if given the necessary opportunity those schools could live up to expectation. The Headmaster commended the District Chief Executive and Member of Parliament for Hohoe South for assisting the school materially and financially.

He mentioned lack of staff accommodation, dormitories and dinning halls as problems that continue to affect the smooth administration of the School. Mr Odikro said the school was still waiting for a pick up truck from the Vice President that he promised at its Founders Day celebration and called on stakeholders not to relent in investing in the School. 11 Feb 07
