Kumasi, June 11, GNA- The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Kumasi High School (KUHIS) in collaboration with the school authorities has organised a workshop on discipline for parents and guardians. The workshop, with the theme: "Role Of Parents In enforcing Discipline In Schools", was also aimed at designing strategies for moving the school forward.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr S.K. Garbrah, chairman of the new PTA, said the vision of the new executive was to help instil discipline in the school and assist with the provision of needed structures. He made a passionate appeal to the government to supplement the efforts of the PTA by providing some of the facilities.
Mr Garbrah said since about 80 percent of the masters stay outside the school, enforcing discipline had become a problem and therefore called for the completion of six flats abandoned several years ago. The PTA chairman said one other problem was inadequate classrooms to accommodate the increasing student population and called for the construction of additional classrooms to decongest the classrooms. Mr Garbrah made an appeal to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and VALCO to assist the school with a bus and other facilities.
On discipline, the PTA chairman reminded parents that they had a very crucial role to play in instilling discipline in their children and wards.
Another area of concern to the PTA, he said, was the way some students squander school fees and appealed to parents to pay the fees themselves.
