Pabieman Homowo Festival scheduled for August 27

Nii Pabie I, the Chief of Pabieman in the Greater Accra Region, said this year’s Homowo Festival of the chiefs and people of the area would be held on August 27.

He, therefore, extended the invitation to the sons and daughters residing outside the country to come home to participate in the celebration to contribute their quota to the development of the community.

The Homowo Festival, which means hooting at hunger, is celebrated by the Ga-Dangmes in the Greater Accra Region. It is characterised by the sprinkling of Kpokpoi and palmnut soup to signify their gratitude to the gods for blessing them with bumper harvest.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday, Nii Pabie said activities for the celebration include a Homowo Night on August 26, a football match on August 28 and an award ceremony for the aged.

He expressed concern about the lack of jobs for the youth and the general poor sanitation and appealed to non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to help solve the challenges.

Nii Pabie appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the only road that leads to the town from Nsawam to make it easier for the people to get to the Obom Domeabra Constituency to vote on the Election Day.

“Ghanaians are one people and I call on all leaders of political parties to strive to maintain the peace before, during and after the elections. Politicians should avoid inflammatory statements that would divide the country,” he said.

He appealed to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to take steps to protect Ghanaian ladies who traveled to the Asian countries for greener pastures but ended up being humiliated by the men.

“It is disheartening to see a Ghanaian lady going through ordeals from three white men on the on internet. The ladies who have seen these ugly pictures should advise themselves and should not allow money to let them go through these barbaric acts," Nii Pabie said.
